Julia Seath - Whitstable Harbour
Leader of the Labour Group

Julia has lived in Whitstable since the age of 2 years and in Harbour Ward for more that 40 years.     A member of one of the oldest Whitstable families, her ties go back for more than six generations building a deep commitment to and love of the town.  She is married with two daughters and three grandchildren.  Educated in local schools Julia is a graduate of the University of Kent.  A member of All Saints Church she also participates in a number of local community organisations.

A Harbour ward councillor between 1991 and 1999 Julia served on all but one of the Council committees.  Since her return to the Council in May 2003 she has been a member of both the Executive and Overview & Scrutiny committees , and is now Deputy Leader of the Labour Group.    A passionate advocate for action against climate change Julia has consistently pressed the Council to adopt a Climate Change Strategy for implementation at local level.  She was also responsible for the motion that led to the Canterbury District becoming a Fairtrade zone.  Currently the Council's representative on East Kent Relate, Whitstable Age Concern and the Police Monitoring Group, Julia is also the current chair of the Council's Health Scrutiny Committee.

Julia claims her greatest pleasure as spending time with her family and friends and her interests include the cinema, theatre, local history, and the arts.  When she has time she enjoys needlecraft as 'excellent relaxation therapy'.

John Wratten - Whitstable Harbour
Deputy Leader of the Labour Group.

I am a qualified social worker and practice teacher now working freelance. I am a life long Unison member and was elected to the City Council in May 1999. I am particularly interested in the health sector, especially primary care and community care. Away from political life, I have three sons, a keen interest in all sports and a love of animals.

As a councillor, my main concern is to ensure that all decisions are made by people who can be held accountable for them. Most importantly, I believe as many people as possible should be enabled to express their preferences about issues by which they are most affected.

I also believe strongly that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity because we all have a valuable contribution to make to our community. No-one should have to suffer discrimination and, conversely, no-one is entitled to preferential treatment.
