Jean Butcher
Labour Councillor for Herne Village & Sturry

Jean has lived in Canterbury her whole life and was a nurse in local hospitals for over 40 years before retiring. She is active in her trade union, UNISON where she is a member of its’ National Executive Committee.

Locally, Jean was first elected in 1999 as City Councillor and served as a Kent County Councillor from 2001 till 2005 for Westgate & St Stephens Ward. She is a trustee of the Northgate Community Centre, Member of Shopmobility and Fairtrade Canterbury. She served as a school governor at Canterbury Academy for over the years up until 2015.

She was elected to Canterbury City Council in 2015 as a representative for Northgate ward with Alan Baldock and is Deputy Leader of the Labour Group.

Jean chairs the Canterbury Forum and sits on Community and Licensing Committees in addition to full council.
