Biography

George has lives in Whitstable his whole live and was remembers his parents buying their home on Island Wall for £800. He is a retired Fire Fighter with over 40 years experience and a former Fire Chief on Vulcan Close.

Whilst in the Fire Service, George was a member of the Fire Brigades Union and Branch Chairman. Since 2012 he has been involved in campaigns to designate West Beach a Village Green and is a member of the group opposing the proposed solar farm at Cleve Hill.

He was elected to Canterbury City Council in 2019 as a representative for Gorrell ward with Chris Cornell and Valerie Kenny.

George sits on the Whitstable Forum, Whitstable Harbour Board, Property & Regeneration and Planning Committees in addition to full Council.

Biography

Val is a retired Headteacher and former Magistrate in East Kent where she specialised in Family Courts. She was an Advisor Head for Kent and has moved to Whitstable in 2004. 

During her professional career Val represented represented Headteachers on Government Working Parties and in representing local views to the Council. She was a headteacher of two schools before being asked to support and develop failing schools in the South London and Kent.

She was elected to Canterbury City Council in 2019 as a representative for Gorrell ward with Chris Cornell and George Caffrey.

Val chairs the Decision Review Committee and sits on the Whitstable Forum, Policy & Resources and Licensing Committees in addition to full council.

Biography

Chris is a youth worker, school governor university lecturer and proud dad of 3. He has lived in Whitstable for over then years.

Chris is a former Chair and current trustee of Whitstable Umbrella where the impact of government cuts to front line services inspired him to get involved in local politics. He takes an active interest in local youth services, whether as founder of a local dads group (Who Let the Dads Out), a Scout Leader at Long Rock or School or Governor and Member of the PTA Executive at Swalecliffe Community Primary School. After a career working in housing and youth work charities across the country, he now is a senior lecturer in Business Administration and Social Enterprise for two prestigious London Universities.

He was elected to Canterbury City Council in 2019 as a representative for Gorrell ward with George Caffery and Valerie Kenny.

Chris sits on the Whitstable Forum, Whitstable Harbour Board, Community and Governance committees in addition to full council.
