Kent County Council Elections 2025
KCC election day is Thursday 1st May. Please be sure to vote!

Labour has candidates standing to be KCC councillors across Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay, and all have been really busy campaigning in their communities.

The first of our candidate profiles is Alister Brady.

Alister is currently Kent County Councillor for Canterbury City North and the Leader of the Kent Labour Group.

He moved to Canterbury as a boy in 1989, and the city is where he's now bringing up his own little boy.

Alister wants to help local residents to be more involved in the decisions affecting their communities.

In his work as a Councillor, Alister has started a pilot scheme working with Resident Associations to develop Highways Improvement Plans. This has delivered path improvements, a new pedestrian crossing and another being funded, cycle path improvements, and an extension to a 20mph zone coming this May.

He has worked with schools and youth and community groups to help with funding for their various projects, and has played a hands-on role with environmental projects for open spaces in the area, helping to plant hundreds of trees and bulbs, litter picking. He has even donned waders on several occasions to help clear rubbish from the Stour!

If elected, Alister's objectives for Kent County Council are:
• Good Quality Education - giving children and young people a better start in and out of school
• Fixing Social Care - investing in prevention to create care that puts people at its heart
• Fixing Roads - fewer potholes, limiting road closures, and an affordable transport system that works
• Secure Local Jobs - a thriving economy delivering better and more secure job opportunities

Shouldnt be on the pitch without the proper boots

Anyone who will dress up as a baked bean tin has my vote. Really in tune with our local community.

With the benefit cuts the demand for food banks will soar.

We are gearing up for the Kent County Council elections on Thursday 1st May and want to hear your views.

Kent County Council has a number of responsibilities including roads, education and social care, and is also in charge of libraries, leisure facilities, and births, marriages and deaths, among many other things.

KCC has had a Conservative Party leadership for many years, and we want to change that.

What do you think should be the priorities for our Kent County Council candidates?

what's happening with Rosie? is she giving up her post? who is currently representing us??

Better roads and transport subsidy fund buses I.e hopper fares

Disassociating yourselves from the policies of the national Labour government is the most popular and powerful thing you can do

We are immensely proud of Beth Forrester, who has been elected to represent the community of St Stephen's as their city councillor.

We know that Beth will return the trust of those who voted for her, as well as those who didn't, and will work hard to support local people alongside her fellow city and county councillors Alister Brady and Mel Dawkins.

We are also incredibly proud of Valerie Kenny and Lawrence Coomber, who fought tough campaigns in Gorrell, Whitstable, and Herne & Broomfield, Herne Bay. Both Valerie and Lawrence really enjoyed talking to people on doorsteps in their wards, and will continue to support and listen to their local communities.

A big thank you to everyone who campaigned and supported our candidates in all three council by-elections.

It’s really important to cast your vote today in St Stephens for Beth and Gorrell for Val. Both are community champions who will work really hard for residents. Not just talkers but doers! 🌹

Sure they are nice people, but I've completely gone off labour over their handling of the water industry combined with blind increases in house building with zero plan for increased treatment capacity.

Beth seemed lovely but Labour’s inaction over the Gaza devastation is inexcusable.

Pity so many pensioners are freezing, thanks to the Labour Party snatching their WFA.
